Hackley Library’s Overdrive

I am happy to announce that the Hackley Libraries now offer eBooks free via OverDrive (this is what public libraries use so several of you will already be familiar with it.) The collection is a work in progress but you will already see many great classic and current titles to check out for both adults and students. The collection can be accessed 24/7 by visiting http://hackleyschool.lib.overdrive.com.
Titles can be borrowed for a period of two weeks by logging in with the username and password that you use to logon to the school network. Books can be read on computers as well as iPhones, iPads, Nooks, Android phones and tablets, and Kindles.
I recommend these steps as the best way to get started on an iPad:

1. Download “OverDrive Media Console” from the app store to your iPad (free.)
2. Once downloaded, open it and click on the icon in the top right corner.
3. Click on “Add a library.”
4. Search for “Hackley.”
5. Select Hackley School.
6. Sign in using the username and password you use to logon to the school computers.
7. Do a search for a book that you want to read.
8. Click on the picture of the cover.
9. Click on “Borrow.”
10. Click on “Download” and then select “Adobe EPUB eBook.”
11. To access the book, click on the icon in the top right corner.
12. Click on “Bookshelf.”
13. You should now see the book on your bookshelf.
14. Click on it and start reading! (Checkout is for 2 weeks and then the book will disappear.)

If you are interested in using OverDrive on a Nook, Kindle, or Android device, let me know and I will send you separate instructions on how to get started.
Information will be sent out to middle and upper school students soon so they will also be able to access the collections (there are grade level restrictions on some of the books for students.) I had several 7th and 8th grade students check out books right before winter break to see if there were any issues and they are extremely happy with the service.
If you have any questions on how to get started, please let me know.
Happy Reading!
