Can you hear the “Jaws” music in the background? The beginning of the year is coming, and it will be here before we all know it.
These past few months have been fairly productive on my end. The online summer circles went well and I was on campus 2 days a week the whole summer working with friends. However, there is just something that always gets me in a tizzy as soon as I know we will all be back on the hilltop, greeting new friends as well as old….. and it’s the question- DID I READ ENOUGH???
That’s right folks, even the literacy teacher worries about text intake (along with cookies). Maybe I should have used the word anxiety:)
I was reading our online books, of course, but my examination of children’s books definitely tend to fall off the path a bit as I try to read other genres that I never get to during the school year. For example, I read The Owner’s Manual for the Brain and How Toddlers Thrive. Another few faves were The Room and The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. Come to think of it though, I did read Busy Busy Thomas only a few thousand times- thanks to my two year old’s obsession with the island of Sodor and his bedtime routine. (I keep waiting for Thomas the Tank Engine to be a category on Jeopardy, but sadly it never happens. I would ROCK that.) Each week Rowan and I picked up a few books to share after our toddler class, but my voraciousness in locating new texts took a bit of a back seat. Now that school is ramping up, my eyes have been catching a few gems…. indicating to me that I am ready to trade my sunglasses for some post its and book marks:)
One of my goals during the beginning weeks of school will be to share some winners that have caught my eye, and please let me know if you have any suggestions that your children came across during the summer.
