In the future, robots will help a lot more than they do now (which is a lot). For instance, Howie Choset’s “SnakeBots” might be able to find people in destroyed buildings or perform complex or delicate surgeries, such as heart surgery. Also Maurizio Porfiri’s “robofish” might be able to draw fish away from harmful areas such as oil spills. The robot Bandit, helps people recover from stroke and Alzheimer’s disease by encouraging them to do different exercises.
No, this does not change science because we already knew that someday robots could help people and animals out of dangerous places. I chose this article because it’s about robots, and I love robots. This article is important because it tells us that robots can do a lot more than “compact trash.”
