A whale was found dead with 48 pounds of plastic in its stomach

At least 48 pounds of plastic were found in a whale’s stomach. The whale was 26 feet long. There were all kinds of plastic, such as disposable dishes, a corrugated tube, shopping bags, and detergent packages with the barcode still on them. The whale was a young female that lived in  Porto Cervo, near the Italian island of Sardinia. The whale was also carrying an unborn baby who sadly died along with it. The world wildlife fund said ‘’plastic is one of the worst enemies of marine species. Scientists also said, ‘’The amount of plastic found in the whale’s stomach was particularly significant.’’ Europe is one of the largest producers of plastic in the world. They dump between 150,000 and 500,000 tons of macroplastics and between 70,000 and 130,000 tons of macroplastics in the sea every year.

I chose this article because I think plastic is damaging the world. I gave up drinking out of plastic bottles for Lent. I think this is important to the world because I don’t think a lot of people know not to use plastic or else they wouldn’t use it. The amount of pollution caused by plastic is very sad and surprising. I think this article brings the attention that is needed to the animals and plants around the world.
